Cathedral Cove Self Guided Walk:
From Cathedral Cove you can access Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve as well as Gemstone Bay, Stingray Bay and Mare's Leg Cove for a self-guided walk. Cathedral Cove is so named because of the natural rock arch joining it to Mare's Leg Cove. In time, this arch will collapse to form an offshore stack such as Te Hoho Rock at the northern end of Cathedral Cove. The track is located near the small village of Hahei. From Hahei shops take the signposted road to the lookout carpark. The track will take two hours roundtrip from the carpark.
Sunrise & Sunset Kayaking Tour:
Enjoy an amazing Hahei sunrise or sunset from the peace and quiet of a sea kayak. The tranquility of a calming ocean paddle as you watch the sky turn different shades of yellow and orange is invigorating and unforgettable. Relax and enjoy - life is good! Available Dec, Jan, Feb only. No previous kayaking experience necessary.
Hot Water Beach:
An underground river of hot water flows from the interior of the earth to the surface in the Pacific Ocean at Hot Water Beach – a long beautiful white beach located between Tairua and Whitianga. During the two hours on either side of low tide visitors flock to the usually deserted Hot Water Beach to find hot water bubbling through the golden sand. You can bring a spade or shovel and dig your very own spa pool in the sand to lie back in and relax while the steam from the hot pool envelops you. With the ebb and flow of the tide each individually created hot pool is washed away clearing the way for the next visitors.
