Puketi Forest Full or Half Day Guided Walks:
You are guided through the heart of the Puketi Forest, visit stunning stands of awesome Kauri Trees which are encircled by great views of the Bay of Islands and the surrounding rainforest and farmland. You experience many types of fauna and flora. Visit the remnants of one of the grandest kauri ever felled in the forest as you visit a sanctuary for these giant trees that have been protected since 1951. The trail leads you to an unusual stand of kauri and hard beech forest along the banks of the river. Guides are well versed in the area’s Nineteenth Century Colonial and Maori history - even today you can still see the traces of their early presence in the forest. Min group size 2, max 6. Half Day Guided Kayak tour to Haruru Falls:
Departing daily from Waitangi Beach, paddle up the sheltered waters of the Waitangi Estuary to spend time exploring the fascinating Mangrove Forests and the unique horseshoe shaped waterfall at Haruru. Your guide will share with you the rich history of the Waitangi River and Maori Legends while taking time to observer the abundant wildlife in their natural habitat. Relax and enjoy refreshments on the beach at the base of the waterfalls or go for a swim before returning back down stream. No experience required, suitable for all.
